This group can
be considered part of the "shock and awe" of the 2003
team. The Baltimore Sun's Athlete of the Year, All-American and
team captain Kristen Waagbo (Duke), also a U19 team member will
lead the proficient and creative offense consisting of senior
captains Maria Bosica (JMU) and Karen Long (Penn State). Last
year this trio accounted for 127 goals of the teams 367. Bosica
led the 2002 team with 44 assists and will continue to feed teammate
Long in some of the team's most memorable plays. Bosica and Waagbo
will be spending some time running the midfield. Making her debut
as a starter will be Ohio State University bound Kelyn Laws.
Laws has a wicked left handed shot and should be able to give
the Vikings additional firepower. Also joining the starting line-up
will be Kristen Slahor, a slippery attacker that can maneuver
through double teams on her way to goal. Katie Mason (Mount St.
Mary's), a superior runner with an accurate shot, will see time
in both attack and midfield rotations. This solid base of talent
will be joined by newcomers Mary Clare Taylor who moved up for
post season play last year; Gina Lucido, one on JV's leading
scorers; and freshman standout Megan Bosica. Younger sister of
Maria, Megan shows great poise and maturity as a player. Expect
to see Megan with a great deal of playing time. A torn ACL will
sideline senior Julie Laun (Va. Tech) this year, but this dedicated
and supportive athlete will be offering her insights and be a
valuable asset to the team. Depth and consistency are a major
strength of the Vikings attack.
