Introduction

All fifth graders will be working with a partner to create a HyperStudio stack on a topic related to either Australian Animals or Australian Geography and Ecology.

You will choose your partner from your Media class. Mrs. Randolph will have the sign up list for topics. Only one group per topic will be allowed for variety.

Your Media class will be introduced to the basics of HyperStudio. You will have time to practice HyperStudio before you actually begin to research your topic. If you already know HyperStudio, but would like a review, then click on "HyperStudio Basics" in the menu bar to the left.

HyperStudio Basics

Task

Each fifth grader has the responsibility of creating an informative HyperStudio stack to educate their classmates on a particular topic related to Australian Animals or Australian Geography and Ecology. You will be learning about your topic as you research and create the HyperStudio stack, but you will also learn from your classmates when you have the chance to view all of the completed projects.

HyperStudio Basics

Process

After HyperStudio has been taught in Media class, you and your partner will choose a topic from the list. Click on "List of Topics" in the menu to the left to see the complete list.

After you have chosen a topic, you may begin your research. Many relevant websites have been found for you. Click on "Research Links" in the menu to the left. This list has been bookmarked for easy access on Netscape in the computer lab. There will also be an assortment of books and magazines available for further research.

After some initial research, you will be ready to plan your HyperStudio stack. You should include a menu card with buttons for each subtopic. Remember that your main goal is to inform your classmates, so the majority of your time should not be spent on choosing just the right sound or transition!

Evaluation

Mrs. Randolph and your science teacher will be evaluating your project for both content and presentation.

The content should be accurate and complete. Photos should be relevant to the topic and should support the text. Text should be in your own words.

The presentation of your project should include a menu with buttons that work properly. The layout of each card should allow the reader to find all information and related photos. There should be a bibliography card to give credit to your sources and to allow readers to search for more information if they wish.
