Principal's Update

12/21/11

Dear Parents,

If you follow the Board of Education meetings, you may already have heard the news…if not, I wanted to share that River Hill Assistant Principal Dr. John DiPaula has been appointed as the new Manager of Teacher Recruitment and Retention for HCPSS Human Resources. A start date in his new position has not been determined, nor has a replacement here at River Hill; however, once we have that information, we will share it with you. River Hill has definitely benefitted from his 3 ½ years of service here and we wish him well in his new position!

Sincerely,

Nick Novak

PTSA eNews December 21, 2011

Enjoy the time with your children over Winter Break. Thanks to all the coaches who work throughout break to support our sport teams! The calendar is full in January so please make sure to check to riverhill.org for updates.

Coffee with the Principal

These monthly discussions with Principal Novak are a great way to ask questions, hear about activities and initiatives, and become familiar with the school environment. You will ALWAYS learn something new! [i.e., Mr. Novak has pastry chef skills which he shared with parents last month…hum!] The next meeting is Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 8am in the Professional Development Center. The PDC is conference room located within the Media Center.

GRADUATION DATE

We know you’ll be asked this question by family visiting over the holidays, so here’s what we know:

HCPSS has requested the graduation window between May 21st and June 1st. Merriweather Post does not confirm that availability until after Spring Break. Once confirmed dates are established, schools will be assigned dates and times within the approved window. The RHHS date will be announced as soon as we know it!

PARENT PROGRAM: “Insiders tips to creating the best high school course schedule”

Are you wondering if the courses your child is planning to take next year are appropriate for his or her college and career plans?

How about if the courses are too difficult or too easy for child’s strengths or weaknesses as a student?

In an effort to provide you more assistance with the scheduling process, the PTSA, in conjunction with RHHS administration and student services, is hosting a panel discussion and Q and A session on Monday January 9th at 7pm in the information center. Come hear the advice of parents whose students have successfully navigated the challenges of River Hill, the words of wisdom from alumni who actually took the courses your students are considering, and the guidance of River Hill staff including teachers, counselors, and administrators. We hope to see you there!
