Principal’s Update April 4, 2011
Dear Parents, The fourth marking period is here! It can go by pretty quickly, especially if you are a parent of a senior, so be sure to keep your student focused and make sure that grades, attendance, and making good decisions remain priorities for the rest of the year! The following news is provided to help keep you informed:
Kudos Additional winners from the Baltimore Science Fair. I always seem to leave someone out—congratulations as well to Sarah Shim who won awards from the Air Force and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Hang Hang Zhang whose project on Soliton-Based Quantum Computing earned awards from Intel and the NSA. Great job! Please join me in congratulating Jack Fitzpatrick for being recognized as the Best Buddies Maryland Chapter President of the Year. We are very lucky to benefit from Jack’s leadership—he is one of the main reasons River Hill was a finalist for Chapter of the Year! Check out the Best Buddies webpage for more info on upcoming activities. River Hill is proud to announce that Anna Demaree, Allan Huang, and Acadia Kocher have all been selected as winners of National Merit Scholarships. The awards are based on 2009 PSAT scores and performance in courses during high school. Outstanding! What a great Talent Show Friday night. Driver Safety Presentation-TONIGHT Glenelg HS is hosting a driver safety presentation on April 4th at 6pm in their cafeteria. Just a reminder that all students who park on school property need to attend a driver safety program. When we open parking to juniors after seniors graduate, all students will need to attend one of these classes. We will hold a presentation here as well, but we wanted to make sure you knew you could attend any of the high schools’ programs.Obligations Just a reminder that student obligations must be cleared before purchasing prom tickets and receiving tickets to graduation. Students will receive a list of any debts owed to River Hill with their 3rd marking period report cards. Please be sure these student obligations are addressed in a timely fashion. Thanks. Milk-9 Contest One of our students, Elaine Mann, has been named a semi-finalist in the milk-9 contest to select a teenage girl who represents the “power of milk.” Elaine submitted a video that can be viewed at the link below: http://www.myyearbook.com/
Please vote for her as often as possible! Good luck Elaine!
