Principal’s Update
May 23, 2011
Dear Parents,
The days on the calendar keep flying by. We’re halfway through HSA testing; there are 20 days of school left for underclassmen; and, as any senior could tell you, four days of school left for seniors (I’m sure many could also say how many hours, minutes, and seconds are left too).
The following news is provided to help keep you informed:
Kudos
Congratulations to the Girls and Boys Track Teams for a great regional meet. Boys 4x100 and 4x200 qualified. Erick Soetje won the 200, 3rd in 100 and 2nd in 400. Scott Heydrick won the 3200 and 2nd in the 800. Girls- Caitlin Davis won the Triple Jump, and Long Jump. Anna Demaree won the 1600. Tope Olejobi was 2nd in the Discus and Shot and Jen Evans was 2nd in the High Hurdles along with Meghan Heneghan 2nd in the 3200. All told- 16 students will be competing at the state tournament this weekend. Good luck Hawks!
At the regional tennis tournament, the girls doubles team of Audrey Cheng and Rena Shi finished first and the boys doubles team of Yusuke Asai and Oliver Zhao finished second. Both teams will compete in the state tournament this week. Go Hawks.
Stay tuned for a spring sports wrap-up for both varsity and JV teams!
Using a Borrowed Graduation Gown?
This year’s gowns for graduations are a little different than what graduates have worn in previous years. In order to fully match each other, we are encouraging students who are wearing a borrowed cap and gown from a previous graduation to bring it in to school and the company will exchange it for free with a new cap and gown. Gowns will be handed out at the first rehearsal this Wednesday.
Anyone still in need of purchasing the cap, gown, and tassel may do so on Wednesday at rehearsal. The cost is $40. A cap and tassel can be purchased for $20. Please bring checks made payable to National Quality Products or cash (exact change only).
Senior Obligations
Graduation tickets will be distributed at rehearsal on Thursday 5/26 to all students who are free and clear of debts to the school. Please make sure your son or daughter resolves any obligations to the school by that time. Thanks.
Seniors are continuing to be notified ATTENTION CLASS OF 2012 PARENTS
Each year members of the senior class and their parents are besieged with advertisements from independent portrait studios. Some of these businesses will go as far as to lead parents and graduates to believe that we have entered into a business arrangement with our school for senior portraits.
Our school has contracted Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch as our "Official Yearbook Photographer" because of the quality, value, & services they provide to our school and community. Your son or daughter will receive an appointment in the mail about 2 weeks prior to picture day. Picture Days for River Hill High School are June 6th and 7th so please mark your calendar and watch for your specific appointment time approximately 2 weeks before picture day. We hope you plan to take advantage of the special opportunities that Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch offers by the convenience of being photographed at our school facility. Deadlines sneak up on us quickly and I want to be sure everyone has enough time to be photographed and appear in our important publications.
Lifetouch offers a variety of sitting levels so you may customize your sitting to suit your individual style. Information about these sittings will be included on your appointment card. The Bronze, Silver & Gold sittings include yearbook poses as well as allow for additional clothing and background changes such as casual sweaters, team uniforms, personal props, etc. Nostalgic black and white portraits are also available.
Prestige portraits can provide you with additional information by calling them directly at 410-644-7700 or 800-445-1189 outside the Baltimore metro area. Questions may also be answered by visiting PrestigePortraits.com or by e-mail at Answers@Lifetouch.com.
Due to the digital production of our yearbook all seniors should have their portraits taken by Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch in order to appear in the formal section of our yearbook.
We hope that by providing this information to you early enough, you will have a clear understanding of the senior portrait process. Please don't be fooled by studios misrepresenting themselves as the official yearbook photographer. Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch is the only studio we have contracted for our senior portraits.
